Itinerary:


Day 1: Arrival and Acclimatization

Morning: Travel to the Lodge

Afternoon: Acclimatization Hike

  • After lunch, take an acclimatization hike to 4,200 m (13,780 ft) to help your body adjust to the altitude.
  • Enjoy breathtaking views of surrounding peaks like Ilinizas and Rumiñahui.
  • Return to the lodge for a warm meal and a briefing on the climb.

Evening: Rest and Gear Check

  • Your guide will go over the itinerary, safety measures, and gear check.
  • Go to bed early to rest for the midnight departure.

Day 2: Summit Ascent (5,897 m / 19,347 ft)

Midnight: Start of the Climb

  • Wake up at 11:00 PM, have a light breakfast, and gear up.
  • Transfer to Cotopaxi National Park and reach the JosĂ© Rivas Refuge (4,864 m / 15,957 ft), the starting point for the climb.

The Ascent: Glacier and Final Push

  • The first section is a steep rocky trail leading to the glacier.
  • At 5,100 m (16,732 ft), put on crampons, harness, and rope up with your guide.
  • Navigate through the glacier using crampons, ice axe, and ropes.

Sunrise at the Summit

  • After 6–8 hours of climbing, reach the summit at sunrise (around 6:00 AM).
  • Enjoy panoramic views of the Andes, with peaks like Chimborazo, Cayambe, and Antisana visible on a clear day.
  • Capture your moment at 5,897 m (19,347 ft)—one of the highest points in Ecuador!

Descent and Return

  • Start descending around 7:00 AM.
  • Arrive back at the refuge by 10:00 AM for a short rest.
  • Return to Lliniza’s Lodge for a well-deserved meal before heading back to Quito or Latacunga.
