All passengers over 3 years old will have three options to enter Ecuador by air:

  1. COVID-19 vaccination certificate with QR;
  2. Vaccination card validated in the country of origin, with at least 14 days of validity;
  3. Negative result of RT-PCR test up to 72 hours prior to boarding.

Any of these documents are valid to enter the national territory, from 00:01 of this Friday, February 11, 2022.

The information is included in the Guidelines for entry to continental and insular Ecuador by air, issued by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), dated February 09, 2022.

This guideline also explains that children under 3 years of age shall not present any of the mentioned documents.

Another requirement is the presentation of the Traveler’s Health Declaration, in digital form when boarding the airline. The document is available at https://declaracionsalud-viajero.msp.gob.ec/. You may also present it in physical form.

Ecuadorian passengers who were declared as INADMITTED in other countries and who return to Ecuador will not have to present the aforementioned requirements. However, the Ministry of Health will perform a rapid antigen test upon arrival in the country.

Those arriving in Ecuador should report the presence or absence of symptoms related to COVID-19 at the airport or go to the health facility of the Ministry of Health closest to their domicile for follow-up.

Any passenger that during the flight or upon arrival in Ecuador presents symptoms related to COVID-19 (high temperature, cough, general malaise, loss of smell, loss of taste, among others) will be evaluated by health personnel prior to entering the migration area. This will be done regardless of the vaccination card with complete vaccination schedule or the result of the RT-PCR test.

If it is determined that it is a suspected case, a rapid antigen test (nasopharyngeal swab) will be performed. If positive, 10 days of isolation should be performed after the date of sampling at home or at any lodging site of the traveler’s choice and at the traveler’s expense.

The information provided in the Traveler’s Health Declaration will be used for follow-up to monitor compliance with this isolation. Passengers will receive a telephone call in order to raise alerts for changes in health condition or signs of alarm.

In the event that the rapid antigen test is negative, isolation should not be performed, but symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 should be reported.

What about entering Galapagos by air?

All persons, regardless of their migratory category, must comply with the following:

All travelers entering Galapagos, older than 3 years, must present a mandatory vaccination certificate with QR code or valid COVID-19 vaccination card with at least 14 days of validity after completing the scheme. Or the negative result of the qualitative real-time RT-PCR test performed up to 72 hours prior to embarkation to the province of Galapagos. All passengers under 3 years of age will not present these requirements.

Additionally, for the entry of national or foreign tourists, the transit control card issued by the Government Council of the Special Regime of Galapagos will be requested. The safe-conduct managed by a tour operator or lodging regulated by the Ministry of Tourism is eliminated (except for the safe-conduct for tour leaders established in Article 12 of the Tourist Guide Regulations for the Special Regime of the Province of Galapagos).

Clarifications

  • Antigen and antibody tests will not be accepted; only RT-PCR is valid.
  • Any person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and who after one month continues to obtain a positive result in the RT-PCR test, may present a medical certificate issued in the country of origin that certifies that he/she is not contagious for entry into Ecuador, as long as he/she has no symptoms.
  • For national tourists, all tests for detection of COVID-19 must be performed in laboratories authorized as RT-PCR processors and sampling for COVID-19 by the Agency for Quality Assurance of Health Services and Prepaid Medicine – ACESS. (http://www.calidadsalud.gob.ec/laboratorios- authorized/)
  • For foreign tourists, testing for COVID-19 should be performed in certified laboratories in each country of origin.
